SOLANA BEACH
December is my favorite month in San Diego. Most people flock to San Diego during the warm Summer months, but little do they know about San Diego in its Winter beauty. The weather is in the low 70’s during the day, and then drops down to the high 40’s low 50’s at night. So you can still get that Winter blanket and fire snuggle time, but also get all the warmth of the southern sun. The sunsets are the best in December too. I don’t know why, maybe it’s because Jesus came into the world in December, but it’s like heaven lights the sky on fire all month to celebrate.
So when Whitney reached out to me about photographing her family on the beach Christmas week, I was beyond excited. Photographing in December Golden Hour is a photographers dream and what an absolute joy it was to photograph this family! Whitney, Peter, and their twin boys flew into sunny San Diego from Iowa to spend the Holidays with Peter’s parents, Laura and Kosta. So what a perfect time to take family portraits on the beach.
Whitney and Peter’s two little boys, Hudson and Maverick (I know, best names ever right?!), were such little cuties. Not only were they dressed like dapper little gentlemen, but they were so curious and excited to be on the beach. Their new favorite thing in life is chasing seagulls. I mean, let’s be honest, it’s pretty fun as an adult too am I right? Watching them take in this new sense of wonder was so very special. Getting to photograph Whitney holding her children in perfect glowing light, to the soundtrack of crashing waves, made for such a memorable session.
While I was secretly hoping that this family would adopt me and take me home for Christmas, it was such a treat to just get to spend an afternoon with them, running around the beach.
