CARLSBAD
What a vision Ashley was on the beach at sunset! We had planned this session forever and I’m so happy that we were finally able to make it happen. Her dress was everything I’d hoped it would be and more. We went through a few dresses before finally deciding on this one together and imagine the glee I felt when Ashley texted me and said, “It fits perfectly!”
I’ve actually known Ashley for a few years now. She manages the property where my office is and we pretty much hit it off right away. Now we set up a monthly coffee date to catch up since we don’t get to see each other as often as we’d like. Whenever we meet for coffee we usually schedule it for an hour, but it goes by SO fast! And then we end up chatting for another half an hour while trying to say goodbye. She’s that friend.
We had way too much fun at this shoot. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard photographing someone! Ashley was a complete natural in front of the camera and was such a sport getting in the ocean with her dress on. Photographers live for that kind of thing. Especially in a dress like this.
This session made me realize that more women need to have themselves photographed. It’s such a simple thing, but so very important. We are in such a hurry all the time, worrying about things that don’t matter, complaining about wrinkles and cellulite, we often forget to just enjoy this moment in our life, right here, right now. It reminds me of the lyrics to one of my favorite songs,
“Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth
oh never mind;
you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself
and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked…”
