DEL MAR
Cliffside weddings are definitely how you imagine yourself getting married when you imagine such things. It’s what you tell your best friend when you’re eight years old, over flashlight lit popcorn, at a slumber party when you’re both supposed to be asleep. “One day I’m going to get married on a cliff overlooking the ocean and it’s going to be the best day of my life.” Rachel just made all of our wedding fantasies come true this past Sunday, when she did just that.
Rewind to two weeks ago when the forecast said it was supposed to rain on Rachel and Darren’s wedding day. According to Alanis Morrisette that’s supposed to be “ironic” don’t ya think, but we were really not of that particular mindset (in other words, shut it Alanis) and therefore were feverishly stocking our Amazon carts with clear umbrellas. Rachel was so sweet about the whole thing and I could tell right away that even if it did rain on her wedding day, she wouldn’t care because it was still going to be the happiest day of her life.
Fast forward to Sunday, and the weather was the thing all beautiful days are made of. It was a clear spring day and the sun was shining down so warm and bright. The breeze was soft and forgiving, only tickling skin in the slightest, and the ocean swayed off in the distance, majestic as ever. Amazon would remain fully stocked on clear umbrellas after all.
Rachel had the biggest smile on her face as she walked through the trees to meet her groom. There under the chuppah made and passed down from the generation before, overlooking the great wide open sea, Rachel and Darren said their vows, exchanged rings, and wiped away tears of happiness. It was a small intimate affair with only close family and friends who were joyed at witnessing the love between these two. This California couple toasted to their new season of life with champagne and sunglasses all while laughing together the entire time. Here’s to wishing Rachel and Darren a lifetime of sunshine on their rainy days and a happily ever after for the story books.
