Bree and Angelo are engaged and I couldn’t be happier for the two of them! What better way to celebrate than a Family Portrait Engagement Session! Before you ask, yes, a Family Portrait Engagement Session is actually a thing. I mean, I’ve never actually shot one before, but I’m so happy I got to! It’s like when you combine peanut butter and chocolate together and you a get Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Bree wanted engagement pictures with Angelo, but also wanted her mom Joanne and daughter Olivia to be a part of them as well! So we made Reese’s out of it! Fun fact: Reese’s is my favorite candy and now I want one.

I had so much fun photographing this family. First of all Olivia is my favorite kid on planet Earth. She is so much fun to hang out with and is SO so smart! She’s only 4, but you can have a full on adult conversation with her. In fact I miss her as I type this because I have so much fun hanging out with her! She was SO excited to have her pictures taken and to get to wear her pretty dress. I hated wearing dresses when I was a kid and would fight my mom tooth and nail. All kids should be more like Olivia. Ha! Okay, I might be biased, but she’s still my favorite and I love her.

Speaking of love, Bree and Angelo are sitting in a tree, K_I_S_S_I_N_G. Are these two so cute together or what?! They are constantly making each other laugh and you can just tell how much they love each other. Angelo gets a star on his photography chart this week because he was so good at posing for pictures! He was definitely doing his giggle kiss homework in the bathroom mirror like I told him to.

I’m just so happy for Bree. Bree and I have been friends now for 7 years! I liked Bree the second I met her. We actually met through some mutual friends when we were drunk at the local dive bar one night. Ha! We just hit it off right away and have been friends ever since. We ended up talking non-stop that entire night and I guess really, we actually never stopped having that conversation to this day. I mean what can I say? Bree is just one of those friends that you can tell anything to. She’s so easy going and just so much fun to be around.

This session was so great. We really lucked out with an amazing sunset and no rain! It’s been raining and cloudy all week in San Diego. The May Gray is taking over our lives and us San Diegans are not having it. I was so excited to see sun in the forecast for their session day! Like I always say, 25% of photography is just pure luck. Especially when you’re shooting at the beach in May. I’m so happy that these two got an amazing sunset to call their own. So what’s up next for these two? They are having a winter wedding in Yosemite! It’s like they knew that was on my wedding photography bucket list or something! It’s going to be so beautiful. Until then, here’s to you Bree and Angelo! Wishing you both a lifetime full of amazing sunsets spent in each other’s arms.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT VANESSA

There's no place like home. Ever-focused on beauty and the thrilling art of creation; believing that photographs make time travel possible.

My grandmother gave me my most prized possession the day I graduated high school. An album filled with photographs taken over her lifetime, dating back to the 1930's. A collective chronicling her life, my parents growing up, and my childhood. It's irreplaceable and nothing will ever be as meaningful. It became my 'why' and led me to pursue a college degree in photography, hoping to give this same gift to others.
