Engagement Pictures on the Beach with Film: A Timeless Treasure
I absolutely loved this engagement session with Hollie and Jason. First of all, Azalea from Wild and Behold florals understood the assignment! I was obsessed with this bouquet and just how perfectly it matched Hollie’s dress. This session was also one of my first engagement sessions on film. A few years ago I decided to start incorporating film into my wedding and portrait work. I found myself drawn to everything about it. Film is having a major resurgence and to be honest, I’m not really shocked by this. Film has been around since the 1800’s and it’s one of those things that isn’t going anywhere. It’s getting more and more expensive to work with, but it’s here to stay. There is just nothing else like it.
WHY FILM?
When it comes to capturing memories of your engagement, you want images that stand the test of time and evoke feelings of joy and love for years to come. And what better way to achieve this than by opting for engagement pictures taken on the beach with film?
Medium format and 35mm film offer a unique look and feel to your images, with its signature rich tones, deep blacks, and unique grain patterns that are impossible to replicate digitally. And when combined with the stunning natural beauty of the beach, the results can be truly breathtaking.
Here are some tips for making the most of your medium format film engagement pictures on the beach:
Timing is key: Try and schedule your session during a time when the light is soft and golden, such as during sunrise or sunset. This will give your pictures a warm and romantic feel.
Consider the location: Choose a location that is special to you and your partner, whether it’s a secluded beach or a popular tourist destination. You can also incorporate elements that reflect your personalities and interests, such as sand dunes, lighthouses, or rock formations.
Work with your photographer: Choose a photographer who has experience with the film medium and understands the unique challenges and opportunities it presents. They will be able to guide you in positioning and composition, as well as help you select the right film stock for your desired look.
Embrace the elements: Don’t be afraid to get a little sandy or wet. The beach is a natural and dynamic environment, and incorporating elements such as wind, water, and sand can add interest and texture to your images.
By incorporating these tips and working with a great photographer (like yours truly!), you can create engagement pictures on the beach with film that are truly unique and timeless. Cherish these images for a lifetime and always look back on this special moment with a smile.
