SAN DIEGO
Micah is graduating! We had so much fun at her boho inspired senior portrait session! We had to reschedule this shoot a few times because of weather! As a native San Diegan, I am not used to weather ever being a problem. It’s been one long month of May Gray and rain! I knew Micah really wanted that Golden Hour sun glow, so we ended up finding the only sunny day all week and locking it in!
We started off at Leo Carrillo Ranch, which is one of my favorite places to shoot for a few reasons. Micah really wanted that Palm Springs, Desert, Boho Chic, Coachella vibe. I was totally down for that too since it’s one of my favorites as far as vibes are concerned. Leo Carrillo Ranch has some really cool spots with that desert cactus feel. The other really cool thing I love about Leo Carrillo Ranch is they have wild peacocks roaming around! They even have a white albino peacock, which sounds weird, but is so cool to see!
Peacocks are SO beautiful to see in real life. I had never seen one before my first visit to Leo Carrillo. Look, we’ve all had that friend at one point in our lives that’s obsessed with peacock everything, right? You get her the peacock feather pen for her birthday, with the matching peacock diary and the peacock greeting card. And then you wonder, what’s the big deal with peacocks? They have pretty feathers, so what? I’ll tell you what! They are so gorgeous to see with your own eyes, it’s like you can’t believe an animal could even have all those beautiful colors at once. They are surprising loud though! It makes me laugh every time I hear them honk squawk. Micah’s mom said she had a neighbor who had a peacock once and it drove everyone insane! I’d move immediately. It sounds like an air horn going off, no joke!
After wandering around Leo Carrillo for a bit, we decided to head down to the beach to get some gorgeous Golden Hour light and play in the waves. When we first got to the beach we were a little early for Golden Hour so we wandered around trying to find somewhere with good light to take some pictures while we waited. Some of my favorites from this session ended up being in front of a random grey wall we found on the side of a building! The light was hitting that spot just perfect and I’m so obsessed with how they came out! After that we headed down to the beach and we totally lucked out because the beach was empty! The sunset was absolutely glorious, like it had waited all week just to set for Micah as an homage to her accomplishments.
It’s crazy how fast time goes by. I remember when I graduated I was so ready to get out of there and on to the next season of life. Just last week I went back to my High School to take an Adult Ed night class. It was the first time I’d set foot there in over 20 years and I was immediately overwhelmed with nostalgia! It was so crazy walking down those halls again after what feels like a lifetime. The days are long and the years are short. I truly hope one day that Micah looks back on these pictures with fondness and remembers what a great time it was to be there. Until then, watch out Liberty University in Virginia, Social Media Communications Department, you’ve got a big star coming your way!
