SUNSET CLIFFS
When I think of Zach’s Sunset Cliffs surprise proposal to Kalee, one word comes to mind. EPIC. Most girls dream about the moment they get proposed to and wonder what it will be like. They kind of put it up there on a pedestal as one of the great moments of their lifetime and of course they want it to be absolutely magical! Well I can definitely say without a doubt, that Zach succeeded in the perfect proposal to Kalee.
Look, I’m going to just go ahead and say it, Zach and I were the dream team! Ha! We had this entire thing planned out perfectly! I’m talking Google maps with arrows, secret head nods, what he was going to tell Kalee so she didn’t get suspicious. I mean we worked out every single detail and it paid off! Kalee had NO idea Zach was going to propose! Zach even confessed that he is such a terrible liar and he thought she was going to figure it out any second! Especially after almost 3 years of dating, she knows his every tell! But Kalee didn’t even know they were being photographed until he told her and I jumped out with a bottle of champagne to celebrate with the newly engaged couple!
When Zach reached out to me and asked if could photograph him proposing to Kalee at Sunset Cliffs during their upcoming trip to San Diego, I was beyond excited. In San Diego we are lucky enough to have quite a few incredible locations to photograph at and Sunset Cliffs is definitely one of them. The views are breathtaking and the cliffs paint such a beautiful backdrop.
THE PROPOSAL
Zach and I worked together to create a plan of action from start to finish. The plan started with telling Kalee that they were going to meet his cousin and his cousin’s girlfriend for a fancy dinner date, so he told Kalee to go get her nails done (a must for engagement ring shots!) and to get dressed up for a fun evening on the town. Zach then told Kalee that his cousin was going to meet them at Sunset Cliffs and they were going to walk to a nearby bar first for a drink and then head out to dinner. This way Kalee wouldn’t be suspicious as to why they were making a detour to Sunset Cliffs.
Kalee admits she was very confused when Zach said, “Let’s just walk down here to this ledge.” Haha. But Kalee being the awesome Kalee that she is, said sure and they hiked down. Zach was clever enough to hide the ring box in his sock, so when he bent down to “tie his shoe” he was already on one knee and could easily access the ring box. So what happened next? See below!
Spoiler alert: She said YES! I’m just SO beyond happy for these two! I feel so honored that I got to be there to capture this incredible Sunset Cliffs surprise proposal of a lifetime. I know Kalee and Zach will cherish these pictures for years to come. Above all, I love getting a backstage pass to witness someone’s love story.
